Bring Simplified Chinese Immersion Education to CUSD!
A: The new program location will be determined based on community input, parental demand, resource feasibility, and school administration feedback. This means it's possible to establish this program at any district elementary school, including John Muir.
The current CLIP program teaches Zhuyin from Kindergarten through 3rd grade and focuses on Traditional Chinese characters from Kindergarten through 5th grade. In contrast, this proposed program responds to strong parental demand for a curriculum that introduces Pinyin and Simplified Chinese characters from as early as TK.
Q: If established at John Muir, will the Simplified Chinese program replace the Traditional Chinese program? If not, how will the new program coexist with the existing program focused on Traditional Chinese?
A: No, our goal is not to replace but to complement and expand, addressing diverse community needs and fostering inclusivity. Our initial proposal recommended introducing both Simplified and Traditional characters in the classroom, allowing students to choose their preferred characters for textbooks, handouts, assignments, and tests. This proposal was declined by the school due to resource constraints. However, we believe that through close collaboration with the district, parents and the school, we can find creative solutions to overcome these constraints and explore the best ways to harmonize both programs.
A: No. The district focuses on the number of students represented by the signatures. To minimize administrative work, we kindly ask that only one family member signs on behalf of all children in your household.
