Bring Simplified Chinese Immersion Education to CUSD!
Welcome to Mandarin Immersion Alliance (MIA)!
Creating Opportunities for Simplified Chinese Immersion in Public Education! We exist to make your voice heard!
Our Vision:
Imagine a high-quality, public dual-language (English and Chinese) immersion program that teaches Simplified Chinese and Pinyin starting from Transitional Kindergarten (TK). Together, we can make this dream a reality for local families seeking the best education for their children.
Why a New Program?
Expand Access: The current Cupertino Language Immersion Program (CLIP) at Cupertino Union School District (CUSD) is exceptional, but its capacity is limited, leaving many families on waitlists.
Simplified Chinese Focus: The current CLIP program teaches Traditional Chinese and Zhuyin in early grades, delaying Pinyin until Grade 4 and Simplified Chinese until middle school.
Effectiveness & Affordability: Language immersion is among the most effective methods for mastering a language. Public schools provide an affordable alternative to private schools and after-school programs for learning Chinese.
Your Voice Matters!
California law empowers parents to request new language programs. If 30 or more students at a school request a language acquisition program, the school must provide it to the extent possible, the district is required to assess its feasibility and make a decision within 60 days. These regulations empower parents to shape educational offerings, ensuring equitable access to programs that address the needs of diverse communities..
